Our story

Erosion control that turned into a vineyard

Larry and Esther Thal planted their vineyard in Lafayette in early 2010 and picked their first grapes in 2012. We make wine under two labels, Thal Vineyards and Stag Hill. Every wine page states its appellation.

The wine is the part people ask about now.

The vineyard

More than half the planting is Cabernet Sauvignon

We have over 2,000 vines. More than half are Cabernet Sauvignon. The rest is divided between Merlot and Sauvignon Blanc.

There is no tasting room on the hill

The vineyard is a residential property and is not open to visitors. Every Thal and Stag Hill wine is poured and sold at Local Vines, a cooperative tasting room in downtown Lafayette.
